About Our Event
Local Leaders is a community fundraising event in which guest speakers are given the platform to share positive ideas, stories, and initiatives. Encouraging attendees to change their perspective towards “thinking globally and acting locally.” Funds raised will be donated to Habitat for Humanity.
The guest speakers are a group of curated individuals that are true leaders in the Windsor-Essex community. They will be giving the platform on July 11th to share positive, stories, and initiatives. Together these speakers form a group of individuals that genuinely “think globally and act locally.” At the event, you will be able to network with this fantastic group of Windsor-Essex Leaders!
Hilda MacDonald became the first female mayor in Leamington since Grace McFarland term in 1951. As mayor, she promises to, "Build on the groundwork of the past, respecting what and who has gone before. Recognizing that not only has our community changed in the last 30 years, so has society, so has the world. Bringing forward opportunities and methods for businesses and entrepreneurs to grow and prosper. While striving to be fair and equitable in every decision made; every plan devised".
Joe Oswald is the CIBC branch manager in Leamington, Ontario. His family has been a part of the bank for over 140 years and counting. In 2014 CIBC gave him the prestigious award of "Amazing Employee." Also, he is a founder of "Hogs for Hospice," a community event that has raised over a million dollars for the local hospice centre. Leamington is very lucky to have him as a part of their community due to his commitment to improving the area. His guest appearance will be one you will not want to miss!
Donald McArthur is an Amherstburg Town Councillor and previous journalist for the Windsor Star. Donald brings his knowledge from journaling Windsor-Essex, and instead is on the other side of the news. For many, Donald can be seen as one of the main faces for the town of Amherstburg. On his free time Donald runs a mile every day and has been for over the past year. Now if that’s not dedication and commitment I don’t know what is. Come learn more from our local hero.
Yvonne Pilon is the President and CEO of WEtech Alliance, 1 of 17 Regional Innovation Centres funded by the Province of Ontario. At the age of 24, she founded her first tech venture, AD2IT, and by the age of 29, she became the youngest female to lead a Regional Innovation Centre. Yvonne has over 10 years experience in the tech sector with a core focus on growing companies and building a thriving entrepreneurial community. Yvonne recently took her love for tech to the airwaves as Host of the ‘Tech In The City’ podcast where she likes to consider herself the Carrie Bradshaw of tech. Yvonne was just recently recognized as a Top Social Media Influencer in Canadian Tech.
As a Leamington District Secondary School alumni, Lisa Jeffery remains a proud Lion and is now a biology teacher at the school. By combining her passion for the environment and her role as a teacher, Lisa became a leader for the school’s EcoTeam. She has guided the group of student volunteers through many community outreach initiatives and environmental promotion campaigns. In addition to her role with the EcoTeam, she has also recently become the school’s International Baccalaureate program coordinator. She was recognized for her dedication in 2016 as a recipient of the Greater Essex County District School Board Outstanding Service Award. Lisa continues to be an inspiration to many as she promotes environmentally-friendly lifestyles and community involvement.
Arthur Barbut is the CEO of the Downtown Windsor Business Accelerator and founder of The Art of Startup Inc. Arthur advises start-ups on the multiple facets of starting and growing a business, enabling clients to realize their full potential as entrepreneurs. He has a passion for connecting practical and academic insights to help develop innovative ecosystems that allow entrepreneurs to prosper. He is currently in the final stages of completing his doctoral studies in entrepreneurship, with a focus on business incubation and social capital. More specifically, his research looks to further understanding of business incubation, in particular, how social capital is created within the business incubator ecosystem and across different types of business incubator models. Ultimately, the research will identify how business incubators can leverage social capital to build successful business incubation ecosystems. Arthur also serves on the board of a number of startups and social enterprises.
Frank Abbruzzese is the President of AlphaKOR Group locates in Windsor, ON. Frank brings over twenty-eight years of experience within the technology sector. Some of Frank’s achievements are; 2012 Windsor Essex Regional Chamber of Commerce entrepreneur of the year; Cofounder of Windsor-Essex leaders in Innovation forum; Vice-Chair of WEtech Alliance Network; Current board member of WEtech Alliance Network and founding board member; Co-founder of WindsorEssex Circle.
Zain Ismail is one of Windsor & Essex County's top 40 community leaders under 40. Zain Ismail is a health innovator, connector and entrepreneur. Attended the prestigious Ivey Business school graduating with his HBA. He has experience leading innovation in both Canadian and American health systems. He is working to implement innovative practices into the health system as a way to improve the patient experience and deliver value! Learn more from Zain Ismail on July. 11th!
Raised in Wheatley in an education-focused family, Aimee Omstead believes that every child should have access to an inclusive and equitable education in a safe and accessible learning environment. She feels that we must appreciate the diversity of our school communities and celebrate the cultures, religions and abilities of all our students. Her own formal education took her through Leamington District Secondary School, the University of Western Ontario and the University of Windsor Law School. As head of Little Hands Kids for a Cause, a grassroots, community organization and as the parent of 4 active children, Aimee has fostered many practical relationships with groups and individuals in the Leamington area.

Get to Know Us
The local leaders' team consists of six Canadian University students looking to create change in our community. Please show us support and join us July 11th at the inaugural event.
I am a second-year business undergraduate at Western University with an interest in finances, agriculture, and marketing. I am seeking business-related extracurricular activities to apply my experiences from work and school. I have excellent interpersonal skills developed from the four years spent working at Lakeside Produce. Great strategic business acumen which is the ability to understand where the business is going, what are their financial strategies, and know my role moving forward. I have developed critical thinking skills by assisting with planning and managing greenhouses.
Linden Crain first began learning about what it takes to be a leader in high school as the student council Prime Minister. From there, Linden has gone onto the University of Windsor becoming a University of Windsor Students’ Alliance Senator, a member of Enactus Windsor, Executive on the Georgie-Odette Leadership Symposium, and contributing over 100 hours of volunteering outside of school. Linden brings his experience with marketing, team leadership, and entrepreneurship to the Local Leaders team!
Jeron Kir is the Logistics Executive of Local Leaders. He is a second year student at the University of Windsor where he is studying to receive his Bachelors degree in Business Administration. He is involed in many different clubs such as the Odette Commerce Society as a Marketing Engagement Representative & Enactus Windsor as a Youthrive Mentor. He is active in manifesting his own wealth through business development and has served over 850 hours of community service. Jeron brings his experience with marketing, networking, entrepreneurship and digital media to our Local Leaders team

Carter is going into his second year at the University of Waterloo where he is studying Accounting and Financial Management. At the University, Carter took on lead roles in clubs such as GCC Waterloo and Strategy Events Team (SET) as their Corporate Relations head. In his free time, Carter enjoys working out, golfing, and competing in case competitions! A notable case competition win was at the EY Challenge National Finals, where he competed against students who were selected to represent the top 10 business schools in the nation. In January 2020, Carter will be starting at Ernst & Young (EY) in Toronto auditing the financial services sector as a co-op student. Due to this being his last summer at home, Carter is taking on the role Director of Sponsorships at Local Leaders to stay involved in the Windsor-Essex community!
Carter Mastronardi is currently pursuing his Honors Bachelor of Business Administration at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfred Laurier University. Carter was the recipient of the John and Mary Cervini Scholarship, which has provided him the opportunity to work in the Global Supply and Sales Divison at Lakeside Produce over the past two summers. As the head of Sales Management, he is excited to combine his passion for the community with his sales experience. Carter believes this platform is an excellent opportunity to inform people of how to take advantage of local opportunities and aspire change.
Brienne Mastronardi is a second year Honours Business Administration student at the University of Windsor. She is a member of Odette School of Businesses Odette Commerce Society as Project Manager of Student affairs. “To me, Local Leaders is a special event as it is aimed at inspiring individuals of all ages, while giving back to a special cause. I am honoured to be the Event Manager of Local Leaders”et to the team.

Julia is going into her third year at the University of Windsor where she is studying a bachelor’s degree in Honours Psychology. She is involved in the community as it is shown through her numerous hours of volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, ICHA, and W.E. Care for Kids. “Personally, Local Leaders is a great way to gain knowledge from successful individuals in our community. This organization provides authentic experience as well as skills that can guide you along your future endeavours.”
